Nic's pick of the month: Grow Your Own Christmas Dinner
Raf is a rather special tomato for Collie Flowers having been introduced to it on the markets close to Head Gardener Hazel’s Spanish home which is where this marmande variety originates. Originally bred in Spain in the 1960s as a winter variety of tomato, we grow it in the UK over the summer. The name Raf derives from the fact that it is resistant to a fungus called Fusarium oxysporum lycopersici (in Spanish, "resistente al Fusarium"). Raf are usually oval and flattened at the ends with deep grooves. Uusually retaining deep green shoulders Raf’s pulp is pinkish, compact, very firm, juicy, and meaty with small seeds. It usually has a sweet taste.
