Grow your own loofah sponge! The cucumber-like fruit dry out as they mature leaving a fibrous core which you can use as an exfoliating sponge or kitchen scourer. The fruits are also edible if harvested when young. Grow in the same way as a cucumber. There are many ways to prepare luffa for eating. Small luffa are similar to summer squash. If you want to eat this vegetable, it is best to peel it before it matures and grows too long. Once it gets too big, more than 15cm, its insides become tough and inedible.
