Aquilegia 'Barlow Mix' is one of the really exceptional doubles forms of Aquilegia. It is the first Aquilegia series with fully double, spurless flowers in a good range of colours. Stylish and elegant, with a graceful upright habit, they grow to around 80cm tall when in flower and will produce many stems of nodding, spur-less, almost spherical heads 2 to 3cm in width.
The highly uniform plants produce three to five stems in the first year and up to ten stems of flowers in the second year. In the garden, the attractive plants and wide colour spectrum are good for backgrounds and home cut flower gardens.
The series of 'Barlow Mix' colours are: Blue Barlow, Black Barlow, White Barlow, Bordeaux Barlow, Rose Barlow, Nora Barlow and Christa Barlow. Christa Barlow is the newest and the least well known. With fully double purple flowers with white petal tips, it is a new sister variety to Nora Barlow and just as beautiful. Her flower heads nod in the breeze above layered petticoats of lacy grey green foliage throughout spring and summer.
This superb and reliable Aquilegia variety makes an ideal cut flower. Excellent for rock gardens, perennial beds and borders, this easy to grow plant is adaptable to sun or part shade, but prefers at least a little protection in dappled sunlight. They are perfect for an informal or cottage garden environment. It is one plant that is guaranteed to create a stunning display.
